Yes, in general this tour is appropriate for all ages. However, if you are considering bringing a child who is active, keep in mind that this tour includes sitting still to watch wildlife and listen to the narration, so this tour may not be appropriate for all children.
What type of ticket should I buy if I'm bringing a very young child?
Since the US Coast Guard counts all people the same, regardless of age or size, all children are required to have a ticket for the tour. There is a reduced ticket price for all children under the age of 12.
What happens if it rains?
The tour will run in light to moderate weather conditions. In the case of severe weather, you will be notified of cancellation and will be allowed to reschedule to another time depending upon availability.
Where does the tour go?
We will explore the Waccamaw River, Intracoastal Waterway and its creeks/swamps.
What wildlife could we see on the trip?
Typically, we will see osprey, heron, egrets, eagles, turtles and alligators. You will see peacocks and exotic animals on the Waccamaw River Tour property.
Will we be able to feed, pet or touch the wildlife?
All wildlife has the ability to bite and defend themselves. Wildlife can be unpredictable. Touching& amp; feeding is not recommended except in controlled circumstances dictated by Waccamaw River Tours such as giving feed to the peacocks and zoo animals (deer, sheep, steer, zebra) along the fence of the property with caution and children must have adult supervision with feeding. Feeding the wild alligators and wild animals is not permitted.
Are drinks or food served on the trip? Can I bring my own?
Food and drinks are not included with your trip. Drinks and snacks are available for guests to purchase at our Gift Shop. We offer water, soda and small snacks like chips, crackers and candy. We accept cash and credit cards. Drinks are available on the boat if needed. Cash and exact change will be needed for drinks on the boat. Please refrain from bringing your own food and drink on the boat. No personal coolers are allowed on the boat.
Can I bring alcohol or glass items?
No, please do not bring alcohol or glass items.
Will I get wet?
Usually we don't get wet. However, if it rains or if it is a windy day you may get an occasional spray from the water.
What should I wear?
Dress seasonally according to the weather. You'll want to wear comfortable soft-soled shoes or sandals. Note that the sun is much stronger on the water so we always recommend sunglasses and sunscreen. In the spring or fall, be sure to bring an extra layer such as a wind breaker, sweatshirt, jacket or fleece.
Is there an available bathroom?
There is a small bathroom on board the Explorer 1 (49-passenger boat). There is also a bathroom at the meeting location in the Gift Shop/Education Station building. We advise using the bathroom before boarding. We do not have any scheduled bathroom stops.
Is there any shade on the boat?
All of our tour boats are fully covered on top, but expect the sun to shine in from the sides of the boat as they are open. Therefore, we'd still recommend sunscreen.
What type of boat is this and is the boat stable?
We cruise on a Coast Guard certified 49-passenger pontoon. Our captains are coast guard certified. It offers a smooth and stable ride. Our Sun Tracker 21 Pontoon (6-passenger) boat provides a smooth and stable ride! Life vests for all riders are provided on board.
Is the cruise suitable for pregnant women?
Our tours are safe, calm and comfortable. There are no restrictions for pregnant women, but we recommend consulting your doctor to be sure.
Will I get seasick?
Our guests usually find the tour boat to be a very steady vessel. While we hope that no one gets sick, we advise you to consult with your doctor about taking preventative measures beforehand if you are prone to motion sickness.
Is the boat handicap accessible?
There is a step over into the boat that people must be able to make. Explorer 1 boat can accommodate a wheelchair but access is limited. Please notify us if you need to have your wheelchair on board. If you are able to be lifted onto the boat by someone in your party and sit in a seat on board then you should be able to attend the trip.
Are life jackets available on board?
Yes, life jackets for all passengers are provided on board.
Is there parking available nearby?
Yes, parking is available nearby at the Waccamaw River Tours property and dock. Parking is free. We are located behind the Waccatee Zoo and you can drive through the Zoo parking lot to reach our boat launch check-in around back.
