What are the Cocoa Beach Thousand Islands?
The Cocoa Beach Thousand Islands are a flood tide delta deposit, formed in the past by a breach in the barrier island by a strong storm surge. The spectacular canals through the 1000 Islands provide shelter to manatee, dolphin and a variety of coastal birds. Discovered on the tropical mangrove islands are shell middens from Florida’s original inhabitants, the pre-Colombian Native American Indians. The Cocoa Beach 1000 Islands are a part of the Indian River Lagoon Estuary also located in the Banana River.
What should I wear?
Dress seasonally according to the weather conditions. The sun is much stronger on the water although the boat does have a roof that provides nice shade. We always recommend sunglasses and sunscreen. You will not be getting off of the boat so you don’t have to worry about wading in the water and the hazards associated with that. You'll want to wear soft soled rubber shoes or sandals on the boat. During the cooler months, you may want to bring a jacket, fleece or rain gear.

Maybe. If it rains or if it is a windy day you may get an occasional spray from the river.
Is there any shade on the boat?
Yes. The eco-tour boats have a lovely shaded roof.

Island Boat Lines operate 43 passenger USCG Certified and Approved Vessels. These boats are large pontoon boats with a flat deck which make them extra stable. Are life jackets available on board?
Life jackets for all passengers are provided on board. Infant life jackets are not provided.
Are the Eco-Tour boats handicap accessible?
Boats are not typically handicap accessible. However, we have been able to accommodate almost all passengers in wheel chairs. Only portable chairs can be boarded due to weight restrictions on the boats. We also recommend that you arrive early so that the Crew will have time to assist you. We board from a sea wall at the Marina so the Crew will assist the handicap passenger on board without the chair and then they will bring on the chair and set in place for the passenger to utilize on board. Sometimes the water level prohibits us from being able to board a wheel chair safely. Do keep in mind that the restroom on board is not wheelchair accessible.

Earlier in the spring (March-April) and later in the fall (September-October) trip availability is based on rainfall as we raft the natural flow of the river. This means no guaranteed water release from the dam. Natural flow water is great fun for team building, nature sightseeing, and playing on the water. Our guides are well trained for natural flow trips and are great at making your adventure on the Big Pigeon memorable.
Ziplines operate from 9 AM to 8 PM every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from Memorial Day to Labor Day and it is in your best interest to schedule all activities on the same day in order to eliminate unnecessarily travel time. The trip time selected is your rafting trip time. Please call the number on your e-ticket to schedule your zipline time.

The best thing to wear is shorts and a t-shirt. You must also raft in shoes that will stay on your feet. No flip-flops, loose crocs or bare feet please. We provide nylon jackets and pants to wear over your clothing at no extra charge and also offer wetsuit rentals.

Do I need to bring anything on the trip with me?
No. Our trips range from 1-3 hours so there is no need to bring anything. We recommend that you lock your valuables in your vehicle. We have a safe place for you to store your keys.

Pigeon River Whitewater Rafting with Wildwater Ltd Frequently Asked Questions
Is rafting really safe?
Wildwater Ltd. has been in business for over 45 years and has maintained an excellent safety record. Our Team Members go through extensive training before being "checked out" as a trained guide. All of our guides are trained in CPR and First Aid with many being trained in Advanced Wilderness First Aid as well. Wildwater takes pride in providing our guests with a quality trip that is both safe and enjoyable. However, due to the nature of whitewater rafting and other associated activities, Wildwater Ltd. and its affiliates assume no responsibility for personal safety or loss of personal property. All participants are required to complete a personal liability and photo release form before their trip.
What if I cannot swim? Many rafters cannot swim but you should be comfortable in water. On all trips, Coast Guard-approved life jackets are provided and must be worn. On advanced trips it is recommended that you have basic swimming skills. In general you should be comfortable in water and all rafters should be able to follow directions.
Do I need to be physically fit? Participation is required on all of Wildwater Ltd.'s trips - you must paddle. You do not need to be an athlete, however a good physical condition is recommended. Life jacket limitations are a maximum girth of 52". For any medical conditions that may be affected by strenuous activity please consult your doctor. IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE!
What do I wear? In the summer shorts, a bathing suit and shoes that will stay on your feet are recommended. For the spring and the fall we recommend layering with synthetics such as fleece or polypropylene.
What happens if there is bad weather? Rain: Trips go rain or shine. You are going to get wet anyway so why not enjoy your river trip when other activities like hiking and biking are better suited for sunny and dry weather. Rainy days also provide some of the most beautiful scenery as fog and mist rises off the river. A baseball cap can help by keeping rain out of your eyes.
Lightning: In the event of a locally severe lightning storm, trips may stop and pull over on the bank. Exposure while on the river is at a minimum because of the high ridgelines and trees that surround the river. Trip starts may be delayed if a storm is occurring at the rafting center.
High Water/ Flood: Wildwater, in conjunction with the Federal Agencies that license the outfitters, have established a protocol for paddling at specific water levels. On the Chattooga, as the water level rises, we move upstream. If the water levels on any of the rivers exceeds safe levels, trips may be cancelled or relocated to another river. In the case of a trip cancellation, guests are offered the option to reschedule, get a credit voucher or receive a full refund.
Do I have to fill a raft? No. Whether you come by yourself or with a large group we can accommodate you on a trip. If you do not have a full boat we will combine groups. The rafts on the Pigeon River holds 6 people. These numbers may vary depending on the size of the group. Whitewater rafting is a participatory activity and everyone is expected to help paddle.
What factors determine the age/weight requirements? The line has to be drawn somewhere. We have seen kids below the minimums that were perfectly capable and we have seen kids that meet all the minimum requirements, but still are not ready! The determining factors usually revolve around the likelihood of a flip or swim and at what age a child listens to and understands instructions. Can the child understand the dangers? Does the child have enough size or body fat to have control of their body in icy water? Can the child rescue themselves or will the parents be so concerned about a young child they put their own health at risk? Minimum ages and/or weights are usually set by the managing agency that regulates each river. Wildwater will not knowingly take an underage person on our trips, we do ask and we do require a signature from a parent signifying proper age. Should you push the limit with your child? No, it is not worth the risk!

Jungle Adventures Nature Park & Zoo Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the Jungle Swamp Cruise? The Jungle Swamp Cruise takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete (depending on the tour guide and how interactive the guests are). Guests embark on a lovely scenic cruise through our park while our guide regales them with the history of early Florida settlers, animal habitats, eco-facts and foliage.
Is this experience appropriate for guests of all ages?
Our park is appropriate for guests of all ages, however, please be aware that our guest will be interacting with live animals, so smaller guests may be afraid of some of our animals, but we never force any of our guests to hold or touch any animal. Parents are the best teachers so if they are willing to have an open mind about the animal and the information presented by our guides about each animal, then the children are more willing to participate.
Do you have any recommendations for guests who reserve a day with you?
Recommendations for guests are that they wear comfortable clothing, comfortable shoes, bring a camera and a sense of adventure. We have a small cafe inside our gift shop that sells sodas, chips, etc.; however, guests can bring their lunches and enjoy them outside in our picnic areas or inside the cafe. Our park opens at 9:30am every day, rain or shine (barring hurricanes, of course!), and our first tour starts at 10:30am, and the last tour of the day starts at 4:20pm.
Is the Swamp Cruise tour open to handicap patrons? The boat is not truly handicap accessible in all cases. Patrons who have the ability to walk down a small ramp to board the boat are okay, however, due to the nature of the vessel as well as lifting capabilities of our staff, wheelchairs and strollers are not allowed on board.
What are guests NOT allowed to bring aboard the boat?Guests are allowed to bring whatever they wish to on the boat. We just ask that they take whatever trash they may accumulate during the ride back off with them when they disembark. We have plenty of trash receptacles near the boat launch areas for their convenience. We do ask that the guest do not throw any items into the Green Gator River (especially food) as it endangers not only the guests, the tour guides but other alligators in the river.
How long does it take to fully experience the Jungle Adventures Nature Park & Zoo?Guests can anticipate spending a minimum of 4 hours in our park (but not limited to that). The live guided tours and the Jungle Swamp Cruise will take up to 2 1/2 hours of time (again, dependent on guest participation). Guests then can wander around our park at their leisure checking out all the animals and scenery we have. They can, if they wish, revisit any of the tours while they are here.
What are the three shows included with admission?
The three shows that are included with admission are the Wildlife Show, where guests will get to be hands on with a baby alligator and other cool critters; Native American Indian Village, where guest will learn about Native American Indian Culture in Florida; and the Gator Feeding where our guides hand feed the larger alligators in the park. The gator feeding will be either a dock feed, where our guides entice the gators to "jump" for feeding, or the bank feed, where our guides actually get into the sand and water area with our alligators for feeding. Either way, have your cameras ready for some exciting photos and entertaining education facts.
